Last night as I was driving McKenzie to dance she says, "Mommy, go faster." I was already going 30 in a 25, so I explained that if we drive too fast the policemen will stop us. Instead of ending with that, I decided this was a teaching opportunity, so I went on to give a three minute dissertation to a three year old on driving the speed limit and the consequences (financial and otherwise) if you don't.
When I was done, McKenzie was quiet for moment, then said, "There aren't any policemen, mommy, you can drive faster."
What can I say? She is her mother's daughter.
